Results are In!! It was a close race, but so happy to see two of our friends animals out there taking GCH and RCH wins home on their stunning bucks. Del made sure he didn't go home empty handed either, as he secured a Grand Champion win and a Best Buck in Show in ring two under Lorelei Hallock!! This earned his first of three required legs toward becoming a finished VCH. "4yr old (a) Has the most length and angularity in the line up as well as the most correctness in his feet and legs. " ~ Lorelei Hallock on her selection of the Sr. Miniature LaMancha GCH Buck Judges Comments:Ring 1- Laviana Allen Senior Bucks 4 & Under 5 "1st Place-Entry A- Although Entry A is a single entry in this class he is to be commended for his General Appearance having great width throughout, good angulation of the rear legs when viewed from the rear, and level through his topline." Ring 2- Lorelei Hallock
Senior Bucks 4 & Under 5 "Single entry really appreciate the length and levelness of his top line. Showing a lot of dairy strength."

You got to stay focused! Developing a working line of minis is rough! How do we do it? And how do we use culling as a tool to help hone in on the traits we want to see developed in our herd?
What is 'culling'? Why is it important? How do you know if you should cull? And, how do you know if its time to cull an animal from your breeding program?
Nutrition is one of the most important elements in our goat herd management routine. After all, what goes in, comes out! "Good feed and supplementation" in-- "well conditioned healthy goats who are productive" out.
We had a lot of fun with punit squares last time around, and flexing our basic knowledge of genetics, but there was one question the squares couldn't answer. How do you really know if you have a genuine gopher eared kid???
Apart from getting your goats conformation, milk production, and udder dialed in-- there is one more key defining characteristic for Miniature LaManchas as a breed that also calls to our attention-- Ears!
Its been a while since we have had to prep for a show, but we were super excited to get Del evaluated by some judges! And despite having never been bathed, shaved, or taught to set up for show (stand still), Del (Dawn*Star KOH Deliverance) managed to secure two RCH wins in rings 1 and 2 of the Senior LaManchas class in the MDGA Summer V-Show! Wow! We weren't expecting that at all! Del was really hard to handle, and really resisted standing still (all he wanted to do was get his back scratched by any means necessary lol!). We are super excited for Del, and can't wait to get him some more practice with more shows in the future! Judges CommentsRing 1 Levina Allen:
Placement of Dawn*Star KOH Deliverance: Reserve Champion (RCH): "...Entry A does grant to Entry B a smoother flatter blending of the shoulder into the chest wall. Entry B over Entry C in General Appearance Entry B has more width between his fore legs and hocks in the rear, sharper withers in his topline and when viewed from the top has smoother blending of the shoulder into the chest wall which lends to Dairy Character showing a clear dairy wedge when viewed from the top." Ring 2 James Oller: Placement of Dawn*Star KOH Deliverance: Reserve Champion (RCH) "..The 2nd place buck excels over 3 in body length and width of rump. He has a beautiful side profile." Every year we actively screen our breeding age animals for CAE, CL, and Johnes. Our annual Herd Health Testing results are in!!
Filling out a Registration form, and not knowing how to ID a kids color can be very nerve racking! But here are some descriptions/pictures to help you out.
Registering a goat for the first time can be pretty intimidating! But don't worry, its really not as complicated as you probably think...
