About our program:
|
"Homestead Goats" are goats in our breeding program that we just dont have the space for to keep on our property. We dont wish to sell them, and they are not for sale. Instead, we offer them on 6 month-to-2 year leases (to approved homes only) to be milked and to be enjoyed as if they were your pets on your homestead. Does 1+ years old may qualify after receiving a negative CAE,CL,JOHNES, BRUCELLOSIS, and TB test. These animals are offered usually in milk, and ready to go to work on your local urban farm/homestead!

Qualifications
|
You do not necessarily need to be a TMGR/MDGA/ADGA member to lease. However, You will need to provide escape/ dog proof fencing in a secure area of your property away from toxic plants/trees, with an appropriate shelter (or barn), and be able to provide all other necessary care to keep does in your possession safe and healthy (including emergency vet care).
We also ask that animals on lease be housed separately from any other livestock (poultry, waterfowl, pigs, horses, donkeys, camels, sheep, and cattle), or goats (that do not have at least 5+ years documentation -on hand- showing negative results for CAE, CL, JOHNES, BRUCELLOSIS, and TB ). *Additional requirements include, but are not limited to, compliance with county/city ordinances, a Home Inspection prior to lease, feed restrictions/requirements (see our care and management page), and a veterinarian referral. |
Breeding
|
No Bucks Required! In the fall (between September and November), we will provide live standing service with a buck either at your property, or simply come and pick up the does. If you are trained/ able to deliver kids and provide pre/post natal care we may (at our discretion) permit the does to kid on your homestead property. Otherwise the does will be returned to your home after kids are born and are eating well off bottles on our property (babies stay with us to be raised on bottles). Babies from does on the 'Homestead Goat' program will be evaluated, marketed, registered, and sold by Copper-Creek Minis. Lessee may make no claims of ownership on any does, bucks, or offspring produced by "Homestead Goats" on lease on/at their property. *** IMPORTANT: Lessee may not use their own buck(s) to breed "Homestead Goats" at anytime. Any offspring, planned or unplanned, that are born of outside bucks (bucks not property of Copper-Creek Minis) to a "Homestead Goat" while in the care of the Lessee, is property of Copper-Creek Minis. Lessee will be held liable for damages to our herd/herd name for using unapproved breeding stock without our permission. If a Lessee wishes to purchase a doe/kid that becomes available for sale from the "Homestead Goat" program, that is fine as long as the Lessee meets our regular purchase requirements: with top priority being given to a DHI/Show home and current member of TMGR/MDGA. *Does/doelings not meeting our qualifications for registration after our evaluation process will not be offered for sale. But they may be leased with approval as a 'Homestead Goat.' |

Does
|
Goats on the 'Homestead Goat' program are offered in pairs (2 does), trios (3 does), or (rarely) quartets (4 does). They will be 1+ years old. Some may have milking experience, others may need milk stand experience (that's part of the fun!).
They may be milked by hand, or by machine (using *approved machines calibrated for use on dairy goats by qualified/experienced machine milkers only). We will not 'Homestead Lease" single does unless you are a qualified clean tested CAE,CL,JOHNES,BRUCELLOSIS, and TB negative herd. Or have purchased all your other goats from us. *approved machines include: Hamby, Dairy One, and Simple Pulse. Hand-made, or otherwise, machines that do not pulsate are not approved. |
